What is Naloxone?
Naloxone is an emergency antidote (blocker) to an opioid overdose, such as heroin, methadone, codeine, tramadol, etc. It temporarily reverses the life-threatening effects of an overdose.
Naloxone is a life-saving medication and staff at Likewise can provide take-home naloxone kits to anyone in Sheffield who feels they need one.
A member of our staff will give you a kit, and show you how to use it to reverse opioid overdoses, giving time for medical help to arrive. Naloxone training can take as little as 10 minutes.
You don’t need to be a doctor or a clinician to administer naloxone – anyone can do it.
We recommend you have a kit if you use opiate drugs or if your friends or family do. You may be able to save a life.
In the below film, someone demonstrates how to use a naloxone kit.
